Nothing Gold Can Stay
Lovelies,
It's been a month of endings.
The masters for the Norzin Chomphel EP are delivered. (Streaming soon!)
The mixes for the Jay Clemens album are in their 3rd draft. (Which is to say, we're only changing the volume of a stray background vocal now.)
And a couple other productions are rounding their final bends of overdubbed piano, background vocals, and organ.
And then there are all the little endings. The songs completed. The chapters finalized. (Wait, what? Writing chapters? Shhhhhh!!)
For so many years my work was TEACHING. Which, especially as a piano teacher guiding the same students for a decade, is PERPETUAL.
My life was the definition of process.
This new way, the PROJECT TO PROJECT way, is a revelation.
I am in the business of products!
Which means:
Beginnings. Middles. Endings.
(When I'm lucky: 2nd rounds! As in, I've now been producing long enough that I'm getting to do SECOND albums with artists!!)
It's as poignant as the seasons.
Nothing gold can stay.
I swear it's making art out of ME!
Every little butterfly that flutters away swells and breaks my heart.
And makes me so ready for the next.
WIth love,
Rachel
Songwriting Salon is launched! With a new round focused on the very heart of the matter: SONG PREMISE! Such a treat to work with artists locating what is truly and deeply theirs to write. We are a whopping 14 contestants this time. And while I was nervous we might lose an intimacy, it seems the more songwriters we convene, the more dynamic, synergistic, and catalytic we become. Watch out world!! We're about to write an catchy song about you!
